Friday at the Nordic Championships offered everything from outstanding performances in the preliminary rounds to thrilling finals and more Nordic Champions being crowned.
The morning was dedicated to T1, with plenty of impressive performances on the oval track. Jóhann Rúnar Skúlason and Evert fra Slippen took the lead in the T1 Senior preliminary round after an outstanding ride, scoring an impressive 8.77.
Sweden also moved into the lead in the V1 Young Rider preliminary round. Lára Gardarsdottir Hesselman and Álfur från Knutshyttan are currently in first place with a score of 6.90.
Today’s Nordic Champions
More Nordic Championship medals were decided on the pace track today.
Vera Elgholm and Dreki från Lind continued their fantastic championships by claiming their third pace gold medal together at NM 2026. They are now also Nordic Champions in the 250 m Pace for Juniors.
In the Young Rider category, Dagur Sigurðarson and Galbjartur frá Hóli secured the Nordic Championship title in the 250 m Pace. Their fastest time came in their first race yesterday and proved unbeatable.
Guðmundur Einarsson and Draumur från Tängmark added another Nordic Championship title to their week, taking gold in the 250 m Pace Senior.
The Gæðingakeppni finals also provided plenty of excitement.
Denmark claimed the GDA title as Laura Midtgård and Hraði fra Skovhuset delivered a fantastic performance in the A Final. With an outstanding score of 8.76, they secured the Nordic Championship gold medal.
Iceland celebrated victory in the GDYB A Final, where Jón Ársæll Bergmann and Viskusteinn frá Íbishóli took the win with an impressive score of 8.88.
Christina Lund and Lukku-Blesi frá Selfossi also celebrated their first Nordic Championship gold medal in Gæðingakeppni after winning today’s B-Flokk A Final. It was a thrilling final with only the smallest margins separating the competitors and a battle for gold and silver that remained open until the very end.
The evening concluded with the preliminary rounds in F1 Young Riders and T2 Senior.
Palma Sandlau Jacobsen and Búi frá Húsavík moved into the lead in the F1 Young Rider preliminary round with a score of 6.70.
In T2 Senior, Hans-Christian Løwe and Hrannar fra Vivildgård delivered an impressive performance to take the lead with a score of 8.30, securing their place directly in the A Final.
Only two competition days remain at the Nordic Championships, and there is still plenty to look forward to – exciting finals, more medals to be decided and many fantastic horse-and-rider combinations entering the track.
