The second day of the Nordic Championships delivered thrilling performances, impressive scores and the first gold medals of the event.
The first Nordic Champions of 2026 were crowned in the Pace Test PP1, with competitions for Juniors, Young Riders and Seniors. It proved to be a remarkable day for Sweden, as Swedish riders claimed gold in all three age categories.
Vera Elgholm and Draki från Lind became Nordic Champions in PP1 Junior at their very first Nordic Championships.
In the Young Riders category, Sara Gardasdottir Hesselman and Herkúles från Knubbo secured the gold medal. This is Sara’s second Nordic Championship title in the discipline, having also won PP1 gold as a junior in Denmark in 2024.
Gudmundur “Gummi” Einarsson and Draumur från Tängmark completed the Swedish gold sweep by becoming Nordic Champions in PP1 Senior. It was their first Nordic Championship gold medal together.
Sport competitions begin on the oval track
Wednesday was not only about pace. The sport competitions also made their first appearance on the oval track, with the preliminary rounds in T1 Junior, T1 Young Riders and V1 Senior.
The spectators were treated to a series of impressive performances throughout the day.
Jóhann Rúnar Skúlason and Evert fra Slippen lead the V1 Senior preliminary round with a score of 7.80.
In T1 Junior, Liam Billow and Agða frá Tängby are currently in the lead after receiving a score of 6.43.
Jón Ársæll Bergmann and Viskusteinn frá Íbishóli top the T1 Young Riders preliminary round with a score of 7.40.
The first B Finals are decided
At the end of the day, it was time for the first B-Finals of the Nordic Championships. The winners of each class secured a place in the A Final.
The GDT B-Final was won by Andreas Lie Sørensen and Djásn frá Arnbjörgum with a score of 8.39.
Sara Dís Snorradóttir and Nökkvi frá Syðra-Skörðugili claimed victory in the GDYB B Final with 8.69.
In the GDYA B Final, Alma Jonsson and Mói frá Efri-Fitjum took the win after receiving a score of 8.32.
Thursday promises another action-packed day, with a full program of sport, pace and Gæðingakeppni classes. We will also see the first A-Finals of the championships, in GDT and GDYA.
